When Rico went to his appointment with the Counselor he was glad to have an excuse not to talk to Hawaii, but obviously as soon as he arrived there and got questioned he became so stressed he went catatonic for most of the session. Then he went to mess hall only because he had to, left without eating.

Since there wasn't really much to do that could take his mind off what happened, he decided to reserve the training room for himself, refusing to let anyone in. After that he was simply going to sleep - he won't have another damn shower, it's too soon for that - but something ruined his plans.

All he wanted was to avoid an incoming party that Hawaii surely would attend, now he gasps as the elevator gets blocked: he could swear it was empty when he walked in! And yet look, he's not alone. Of all people, local fucking creep Agent Florida is here and blocked the elevator on purpose. Rico is instantly terrified:

"What the hell are you doing?!"

Rico reluctantly shakes his head.

"What...What do you want from me?"

He gulps, hoping in vain that he's just misreading the situation.

"Hawaii hasn't told you yet?" Oh, what a great opportunity to just toss a bone and see what happens!

"Well, he's always whining about you not even considering him as anything more than a friend; says he has got no problem with it, but it's clear that he does. He's got the biggest crush for you, son" he pats is cheek, his grin widening.
"And I'll tell you that, friends usually don't moan each other's names in that way"

"I-I don't understand. Did he send you to talk to me in his behalf or...? Or something."

Rico is well aware that Florida doesn't have good intentions, but he doesn't want to believe it, because if he believes it then he's in immediate danger. He looks at him with big, wide eyes. As if being cute will save him from the situation, but to be fair it's not something that he does consciously, it's one of the many defense strategies that are built in the body.

"I was just curious if you were a couple yet" he replies, "but apparently not. You should really consider it, though"

He finally steps to the side, letting Rico reach the buttons, if he needs to.
"Hawaii is a good kid, he just needs... Proper directions, sometimes. He doesn't mean to hurt a fly"

"Yeah, I-I know he's a good guy. We're just not a couple."

He doesn't even know why he's going along with this. It's very weird. And scary, honestly.

Rico eyes the buttons. He wants to reach them without getting noticed, is not sure on what to do yet.

"Have you considered you could be one?"

Rico is not convinced but manages to sound stern enough.

"Why do you care?"

He tries all the buttons and great, none of them works.

"Fuck..."

"I just like to snoop around. Plus, Hawaii talks about you a lot"

He doesn't mind about the elevator not working, apparently.

"Does that bother you?"

"It clearly does. Also, how is blocking me in an elevator going to help any of us?"

He's not excited to hear the answer but he wants to be prepared for anything.

"Why are you so on edge? I don't bite, do I?" He lays his back against the wall.

"It looks like we're going to be stuck here for a while, so you'll better get comfortable. I'd reconsider taking off my armour if I were you"

As he says so, he's already undoing his hair.

He's pretty sure Florida bit someone at some point, actually. But fine.

Rico removes the armour plate on his ass, hoping not to draw too much attention to the stain, and sits on the elevator floor, staring at Florida. If he tries something, he'll just punch him in the face. He might be known as a crybaby but he's a soldier too, damn it.

Spotting the stain spikes up his interest again. He was almost willing of letting go of it, but having proof of it leaves a lot less room to speculation.

Still, it's better to leave Rico some time to cool off. It's no fun when they close up and get defensive, it's a lot better when you can poke them and get a reaction.

"So, had any plans for tonight?"

"No..." he mumbles "I'm just gonna get some rest. I wanna recoup for tomorrow, I don't like waking up with no energy."

He pretends to be more relaxed, but it's clear that he's still uncomfortable.

"I heard there's a party going on tonight. I wasn't planning to turn up, but at this point... I might as well. I doubt Wyoming is still waiting for me to get to his room"

He finds small talk soothing, in a way. He pauses.

"Would you fancy a cup of tea with us, when we get out of here?"

"We'll see." Rico keeps being evasive "I'm not feeling so well."

Good! Finally something to talk about.

"Why, are you feeling sick? Or did you get hurt during practice?"

"I'm not sure. Probably a mix of both."

Rico hugs his knees. He really hopes someone can get him out of here.

"Was Hawaii too rough with you? I'm surprised you can still sit, of that's the case!" It's not like he'd know from experience, but we'll, he's seen Hawaii top his partners a couple of times.

"Hope that didn't scare you off, it would be a pity to back down now"

"W-what?!"

What the hell is wrong with this guy for him to feel so comfortable talking about other's private life?

"I meant that I'm tired from training. I already told you, Hawaii and I didn't do anything."

"Aw, I was just kidding!" He nudges his shoulder with one hand.

"You know, this could be a nice bonding experience between the two of us"

Too bad Rico is moody and easily offended.

"Why?"

"I think it's the first time we actually have some time to talk. Isn't it nice?" He claps his hands together, then let them fall in his lap.

"First of all, I was always curious about what you do in your free time. I barely ever see you around!"

"Oh, not much, I just like to chill on my own. I'm a boring guy, and I like it that way."

He's boring, he promises, now leave him alone.

"Hawaii told you me you read cards? Is that a real thing?" He asks.

"I've always been curious about that. Do you think you can read the future?"

"Yeah, it's a real thing. But don't trust too much anyone who claims they can read the future with them. It's more like uhhh..."

Huh, Rico is actually loosening up by discussing an interest.

"Like a vibe check. Tells you what is up at the moment and based on what you want you can kinda decipher whether you are on the right track or not."

See? It's better when Rico's friendly! He really doesn't understand how people can be so rude most of the time. He's just trying to make friends, afterall.
