Hawaii had reassured him that it wasn't 'a disaster', but the fact that they had to stop because it was too painful kind of made it so that now trying to face it again would be more...Well, intimidating for Rico, and possibily more frustrating for Hawaii himself though he'd never admit it.

Rico assumes that they will keep being friends and discuss what happened in a way that hopefully didn't make it worse. The tarot reading Rico gave himself said they were gonna be okay, so...

"Hello." Rico sits next to Hawaii at dinner. "How did the mission go?"

"Okay..."
he thinks this is kind of an overreaction, but he's not going to argue about it. He gets up, stops the recording, and put the camera away.

"Wanna cuddle on the bed?" he suggests, hoping for a yes.

"Yeah."

He means it, but he does sound pissed off still. He lies on the bed, facing away from Hawaii.

He lies down behind him, immediately pulling him into a hug.

"What's wrong?" he asks, stroking his arm.

"I'm completely useless, that's what's wrong."

He doesn't cry, or even sob, but he is definitely heartbroken.

"Why can't I just be normal?"

"Hey, stop that. There is nothing wrong with you" he pulls him closer, "I'm serious"

He knows it sounds like he just said that to make Rico feel better, but he can't be blamed, right?
Dealing with Rico's insecurities is always so weird, mostly because the guy is almost impossible to read.

"What would being normal even mean, for you?"

"Fuck if I know. I don't want there to be a 'normal for me'. I want to be like everyone else."

He whines in an almost childish tone but the complaint is not a mere display of immaturity. Perhaps for the worse.

"If that can help you, other people barely give a fuck" he sighs.

"Like. I don't know, man. They may tease you and all but no one actually cares as long as you're not hurting anyone"

He wishes he could be more helpful, but he guesses this is the best he can do.

"Yeah. I guess that's probably a good thing in here, everyone is always at each other's throat." Rico sighs "But I do feel like a fraud, like I shouldn't be here in the first place."

"What would your other options be? If you weren't here, that's it. Plus it's not like you're on the bottom of the leaderboard. You are useful. I always trust your visions"

It's quite a lot to say at once, but he doesn't care.

Rico tries to think about it.

"You know, I should have had a plan, but I just never really thought I would have a future. Still don't."

He makes a disgusted noise.

"Hell, you think this is fine, like, in general? Soldiers are nothing but cannon fodder, even the best ones. I was drafted because I was better off as cannon fodder, I guess, but...Is this really all there is? For me, for you, for all of us?"

He takes a moment to think about it.
He's reminded of his interview with The Conunselor, and he can't help but think about the reason why he didn't get into professional sport or whatever if he was so good at physical performance.

"Well... it's for the bigger picture, afterall. If you sacrifice yourself for the greater good then you really can't be useless, or an asshole"

He sighs.
"Of course there's something better, but I think everyone in here is part of the project because they couldn't have it. Not yet, I hope" he sighs, kissing Rico's cheek.

"It may sound cheesy, but I hope we will find something good for us once this is over"

He was about to keep complaining and ask what if they die before getting to that happy ending, but the kiss on the cheek pulls him out of that bad mood.

"Yeah, I hope so too..."

"Just c'mere" he tries to pull him closer as if they weren't already pressed together.

He looks for his hands with his own, grabs them, then leans forward to give him another kiss.

"You're warm" he mumbles, rubbing his face against the back of Rico's neck

Rico hums softly, caressing Hawaii's hand in his own with his thumb.

"I don't know what I would do if you weren't here with me."

"aaaw" he doesn't really know how to reply to that, but it makes him melt.

He usually wouldn't react like that, but hey, Rico's special.
"That's nice"

He almost wants to talk about how it's good that Rico isn't like anyone else, because that's what makes Hawaii feel all fuzzy and warm. But that's not the kind of special that bothers Rico, and he doesn't really know how to address all of this without sounding weird.

"This... man, I don't know, I feel like I'm about to pop a boner"

He sounded weird, exactly as planned.

"Uh."

Did he miss something? How is that an immediate response to what he said?

"What?"

He is not mad, just legitimately confused.

Well, he fucked up, but laughs softly because this is just hilarious.

"I mean-" how the hell do you fix this?
"I'm having all kinds of feelings right now, that's what I'm trying to say. You tend to have this kind of effect on me"
this makes at least a little bit of sense.

"Especially when you're sweet like that"
He doesn't want to even think about what Rico would do or feel if he was left to deal with all of this alone.

Rico turns around, with a big smile on his face.

"You make me feel a lot of things too."

He gently lays a hand on Hawaii's chest and pecks his lips.

He doesn't let him pull away, instead, he deepens the kiss.

He lets go of his hands to grab his cheek, while also putting a leg on top of Rico to hold him there.

Rico closes his eyes. The hand on Hawaii's chest slides down, going under his shirt and caressing his abs.

Good to know that Rico is on board with this, because his next move is to roll on top.

He smiles down at him, takes his shirt off, thenresumes at kissing him.
For a second he wonders if Rico is okay with having sex after a conversation like that, but maybe he can use a distraction.

Rico's hands slide at Hawaii's waist, eagerly pressing him downwards as the kiss is reciprocated, and tugging down his pants while he's at it.

He pulls back to get his pants out of the way.
"What do you want to do?" he asks, immediately startin to undo the fly of Rico's pants.

"Anything in mind?"

He shakes his head lightly, giving Hawaii an adoring look.

"You decide."

"Well, in that case..." he shoves his hand down Rico's pants, not wasting anymore time.

"We'll better get you hard"
